I am a researcher in the Department of Informatics specializing in qualitative methods. My research areas include education technology, mobile communications, the history of the Internet, community archives, and digital humanities.

Taught Internet and Society, an undergraduate course, with significant contributions to instructional design and course development. The class offered a historical overview of key twentieth-century events that led to the creation of the Internet, then proceeded through a number of domains where scholars, policymakers, and pundits have touted its presence as transformational, including education, government, business, and privacy. Student participation was measured via contributions to a class blog and the completion of three different experiments that pertained to search engines, data visualization, and privacy, respectively. Additionally, students produced a census of surveillance cameras on campus, collaboratively authoring an interactive map that also functions as a data source for further research.
