首先，准确来说，LSE的个人陈述叫做statement of academic purpose，由此可见伦敦政经学院对学术性有特别的执念。

官网上显示，lse期望在statement of academic purpose中看到：

1. 申请该项目的动机；
2. 与课程相关的学术兴趣、优势和相关背景；
3. 对该项目感兴趣的领域；
4. 与项目相关的学术/研究志趣；
5. 任何职业抱负，以及在项目中的学习将如何帮助你实现这样的抱负；
6. 其余相关的信息，诸如其他阅读、研究、工作或者其他相关经验促使你决定申请这一特定的项目。

请注意有些项目有具体的要求，请查阅相关项目细则。

结合官方要求，我们可以划以下重点：

申请者列举的关键点可以是与申请专业课程内容有关的：

1. 学术兴趣和动机

2. 研究方法
   

3. 个人独到的学术理解

4. 学术经验

5. 知识和技能（尤其是可迁移技能）

       ……

支撑这些关键点的例子可以是：

1. 此前或者现在的学习经历，包括诸如TED Talks这类网络课程

2. 阅读体验
   

3. 学术兴趣和课内外学术活动：如读书会、学术讲座、研究项目

4. 工作或者实习经历

5. 志愿活动

6. 博物馆或者画展的看展经历
   

7. 兴趣爱好

     ……

为避免落入八股文的窠臼，我不建议每个人的文书思路保持一致。statement是非常个人化的，也是多元的。

下文将列举一篇有效的个人陈述至少具备的五大元素：

让你对该项目产生兴趣的或许是某本学术著作、某位教授的课程、某项研究抑或是某次实习经历等等专业相关内容。

有些同学爱在开头提到家庭对动机的影响，很容易写成招生官不待见的陈词滥调。以法学的文书为例，有类less convincing的表述是：

“我的父亲是法学教授，所以我从小就对法律感兴趣，希望读LSE的LLM。”

但是，父亲是法学教授和个人对法律的兴趣并没有必然的因果关系。这种表达看似合理，实则逻辑链断裂，缺乏说服力。当然，也不是说家庭因素不能触发个人对于某个学科的热情，而是任何一个例子应当落到具体的点上才会有说服力。

LSE官方写作指南给出如下优秀的范例：

‘When I studied the upheavals of the 19th and 20th centuries, I began to see how this period is key to understanding the modern era. As I examined the Industrial Age and the growth of global trade, I focused increasingly on economics. I believe that the analytical tools of both fields are essential for a deep understanding of the world.’

正是因为the Industrial Age and the growth of global trade，所以我对经济的热情高涨。如果一定要提及家庭因素，这样表达也许更有说服力：

“父亲从小注重培养我的法学素养，读罢《XXX》这本法学著作，我的收获是XXX，引起了我对这一学科XX领域的关注。”

· 𝟚 ·学科理解/经验

对学科理解的文段不应是泛泛而谈，最好落脚到对某一领域的持续关注。

请问自己：

为什么关注这一领域？

这一领域的核心/前沿问题有哪些？

以法律为例，分享一个convincing的表述：

I am particularly interested in how law interacts with morality. To what extent laws should govern and regulate people’s wellbeing? For instance would we be able to justify stem-cell research without defining when life begins?

而“自从我看了《The Good Wife》这一律政剧，开始对法律产生兴趣”此类缺乏细节的表述是很难有说服力的。

· 𝟛 ·相关的学术经历

相关的学术经历可以是阅读体验、学术研究、TED Talks演讲等等。

以Philosophy, Politics and Economics的文书为例：

‘Having read “End This Depression Now” by Paul Krugman I gained a deeper understanding of Keynesian theory. I found his argument convincing because…’

而另一篇Politics and Philosophy申请文书的写作范式却显得less convincing：

‘A lecture I attended by Michael Sandel encouraged a rigorous philosophical style, and studying Spanish independently has also illustrated how expression affects meaning. Literature at A level, has strengthened my precise phrasing of arguments. Simon Blackburn’s “Being Good” has stimulated my views on moral behaviour. I have been inspired to act according to these beliefs: I set up my school’s first feminist society.’

这一节虽长，但是通篇没有切实有效的信息，难以让招生官看到申请者的能力。原因在于，这位同学只是在泛泛而谈自己做了什么事，而上课和strengthen my precise phrasing of arguments之间缺乏细节的连接，逻辑链是断开的。招生官只看到了申请者参加了Michael Sandel的lecture，学了Spanish，却不知道申请者在这个课程中遇到了什么困难，如何解决问题，有什么收获。

因此，在撰写典型的事例时请避免叙述，多问自己：

我遇到了哪些难题？如何解决的？

运用了什么研究方法？

印象最深刻的学术问题是什么？

我有什么收获？

相关的技能可以是工作或者实习经历中收获的文献检索技能、写作技能与研究方法等等。

以Social Policy为例，我用“伦敦政经红”highlight的地方是值得学习的点：

‘Studying both Economics and Sociology has given me a good theoretical understanding of social science perspectives. This will prove particularly useful when studying an interdisciplinary course. My AS level Maths this has helped me to apply and develop my numerical skills which means that I can readily evaluate and analyse quantitative data.’

同样的，lse给出了economics的一篇“低分作业”节选：

‘My EPQ investigates income inequality and employment opportunities in the global South. Writing my EPQ has taught me to think logically and challenged me to research and carry out analytical work.’

· 𝟝 ·独立思考能力

以Economics为例：

‘Although many conservative economists have already dismissed such suggestions, I think that disregarding any certain factor is against the essence of economics, as every factor plays an important role towards the happening of every event.’

Economics and Economic History方向的文书只是在描述universe。这篇less convincing example缺乏个人洞见，与上篇文书对比鲜明:

‘The universe around us is in a constant forward and backward spiral to reach one ultimate goal, equilibrium; a state of dynamism but steady due to the equality between opposing forces.’
